Expert Answers about Camper Tie-Downs

  • Truck-Bed Camper Troubleshooting For Tie-Down / Step Space Issue
  • The TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Rear Item # TLR3510 is competing for the same space as the step so unfortunately there isn't a work around for this tie down. Instead you could replace the steps that bolt onto the wall of the camper like the TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Scissor Steps w/ Landing Gear - 3 Steps - 375lbs - Black Bracket Item # TLA7833. There are a few different options depending on the entry height of your camper which you can see in the chart I've attached....

  • Availability of Truck Camper Tie Downs for 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5 foot 7 inch Bed
  • The Tork Lift camper tie-downs we offer are all meant for the 6-1/2 foot bed, not the 5 foot 7 inch bed on your truck. CR Brophy offers the # HSSF which would work with your truck, as long as there is 2 inches of clearance under the bed lip as shown in the photo I provided. You'd also need the tie-down hardware package, part # TDHP. The HSSF would actually clamp to the underside of the lip on the bed side rail.

  • Troubleshooting Too Much Play With Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs
  • The Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSSF will have a very slight amount of play since there is a compressible pad to prevent scratches on the bedrails, but it sounds like you're having much more significant play. I've attached a picture from an install of this part and you can see that the bolt is at its limit on threads. If you're seeing the same with your install then I recommend picking up longer T-Bolts with part # BR2007 to close the gap and tighten it down more to your bedrails.

  • Solution For Bed Bolt That Doesn't Want To Tighten After Installing TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs
  • Glad to hear most of the installation of your TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs # TLC2225 went well, however to fix the issue you're having I recommend re-tapping the threads for your bed bolt as they may be worn or stripped out. To further secure the bolt into it's spot you can also use some thread locker like: -Loctite Threadlocker 262 - High Strength - Up to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts # LT37420. I've also included an installation video for you to check out as well.

  • Installation of Bolt for TorkLift Camper Tie Down TL2022 Where Star Washer Won't Grip
  • I was able to reach out to my tech contact over at TorkLift to get some guidance on the installation of the TorkLift Front Tie-Down # TLF2022 for you. He mentioned that you'll want to apply pressure to the tie-down (pull it down a little bit) or to the bolt threads so that the star washer stops the bolt from spinning- you can use some channel locks and a rag to save the thread or use a screwdriver against the threads so that it doesn't spin. He also mentioned that if you have an impact...

  • Help With Installing Pin Locks On TorkLift FastGun Turnbuckles For Camper
  • The Pin Locks for TorkLift FastGun and Derringer Turnbuckle Handles # TLS9500 do fit snuggly on the TorkLift Turnbuckles, but we have not heard of any fitment issues like you are describing. If this only occurred on one of the handles then perhaps there was some extra heavy paint finish preventing the lock from fitting together properly, thus leading you to file down some of the finish. If this happened on all four handles then feel free to send me some more information and/or photos so...

  • What Is The Plastic Panel Covering The Tie Down Bracket On The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • In order to remove that panel, there will be a 10 millimeter nut that needs to be removed using a 10 millimeter socket. Towards the back of the bumper, there are two push pin fasteners that are holding it in, that will need to be removed. You can use a flat head screwdriver or trim panel tool. When you see two small notches on the push pins, pop out the center section to take the tension off. The pop out the outer ring on the push pin and remove it all the way. Now you can pull the panel...

  • What Options do You Have for More Support for a Canoe Mounted on an Adarac Rack on a 2013 Silverado?
  • I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, there is not an extension of the Adarac ladder rack # A70510 available. As far as having additional support of the bow of the canoe on your 2013 Silverado's cab, I recommend the Malone Foam Block for Canoes - 6" Long - Qty 1 # MPG160. The Foam Block will serve as a point to mount the bow down to the roof of your cab to make sure the kayak doesn't bump it during transport. In addition to the foam pad, you will need the Malone Hood Loops for Bow and...

  • How Long Does Warranty Last On CargoBuckle G3 Retractable Ratchet Tie-Down Straps
  • The CargoBuckle G3 Retractable Ratchet Tie-Down Straps # IMF18800 have a 1 year limited warranty. This is pretty standard across brands for a retractable ratchet strap. Unfortunately, after 10 years this means they are no longer covered under the warranty. The only option would be to replace them.

  • Mounting Brackets For BoatBuckle Tie Downs That Bent From Boat Hull On Trailer
  • For the BoatBuckle Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893 themselves you will want to check the mount tab for any cracks that may have occurred. If you have cracks in the steel you will want to replace the entire assembly. We do have the Mounting Bracket # IMF14254 which may allow you to position the straps away from the area where your boat hull can contact it while loading. Otherwise please send me some images of your boat and trailer and I can give you other alternatives.

  • Troubleshooting A MaxxAir Fan That Shuts Down When A USB Charging Port Is Being Used
  • MaxxAir vents like the # MA00-04000K run off of 12 volt DC power and with the symptoms that you're having I suspect that the USB charging outlet is running off of 12v DC as well and is tied into the same line as the vent. When you draw power for the charger it's taking it away from the vent, causing it to shut down. A lot of manufacturers will tie smaller appliances together to make the installation easier so it's very likely that this is the case for your motorhome. Normally the vent...

  • Keeping Water Out of Air Force One Braking System in Automatic Car Wash
  • I spoke with my contact at Demco and he insisted that while it was unlikely that the cap that goes over the air connection on the # SM99243 would come off in an automatic car wash, they recommend using a zip tie around the cap on the connection to keep it secure. Typically the cap would only come off when they are worn down and stretched out. Using a zip tie around the base will keep even the most worn down cap from coming off while going through an automatic car wash.

  • Troubleshooting Hayes Trailer Brake Controller LED Flashing While Driving With Camper
  • The LED light on your Hayes Trailer Brake Controller comes on when it senses power from the brake light switch or the controller is manually activated. Your brake light switch on your 2015 Nissan Pathfinder may be faulty. Since it is just blinking it does not see the power long enough to activate the trailer brakes. Since you have a 2nd Hayes controller on your other vehicle I would recommend swapping them to see if the same issue occurs with the other controller. This will tell you...

  • Troubleshooting an Everchill RV Fridge That Will Not Cool Down and Has the Numbers Flashing
  • The temperature light is likely flashing because of a lack of full power to the fridge, it requires 11 amps. Which is a good amount. It is likely trying to attain more power than available, which is why the lights are flashing but the compressor is still running. I recommend checking to ensure you have the amperage required, you can do this using a Digital Multimeter # PT89ZR. If you do and the fridge is still problematic you will need to have it serviced by a qualified technician. Or you...

  • Power Shutting off After 5 Minutes in Small Camper
  • Since you are not tripping any breakers, it could be that you are approaching the power limit for your camper. I recommend calculating the total power consumption of the appliances and accessories in your camper. Try testing different combinations of appliances to narrow down which appliance is putting you over the power limit (e.g. try powering on with just the lights on, then just the air conditioning and so on). If the main culprit turns out to be the air conditioner, I recommend using...

  • Troubleshooting Surge Brake Boat Trailer that Makes Slamming Sound When Hitting Bumps
  • Is your trailer sitting as level as possible? Sounds like it could be sitting possibly nose high and combined maybe with a bit of play in the ball mount is creating the slamming you are experiencing. It's also possible your surge actuator has a bad shock and the bump is causing the actuator to apply and release the brakes quickly which is causing what you described. If you can push in on the front of the actuator you should be able to see the actuator somewhat slowly rebound to the fully...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring for Ford 150 4x4
  • First thing to do is use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check each pin function on your trailer connector at your rear bumper. I've attached an article to assist with function locations. It sounds like your system was overloaded and shut down. The change in draw with the headlights on is significant enough that a bad ground on your trailer or truck could cause the camper lights to go out. If when you tested the system shut down, then you want to not only check the red fuse as...
